The Lab Highlights

Educational, inspirational and engaging.

The Lab, powered by Lavazza, is returning to The Milan Coffee Festival 2019 to offer visitors an array of interactive demonstrations, workshops and tasting sessions, as well as fascinating talks and lively debates on everything from women in the coffee industry to the evolution of coffee in Italy.

The weekend offers exciting, educational sessions to entertain and boost your knowledge on the biggest issues in coffee and the tiniest details in your cup.

With the festival now just two weeks away, we're delighted to round up some of our Lab highlights that are not to be missed.

The Lavazza Talks
From the evolution of the Italian espresso to exploring origin, The Lavazza Talks are not to be missed.

The weekend offers live demonstrations and exclusive insights, from sharing some of the steps they have taken towards effective and collaborative sustainable development, to exploring Cuba’s rich history with coffee and celebrating 500 years of its vibrant capital, Havana.

The Panel Series
As one of The Lab’s most animated features last year, we’re bringing back a series of panels to collect a dynamic range of perspectives on pressing questions such as, What does it mean to be a woman in coffee? What does the Italian Caffe of the future look like? How can social media help to promote high-quality coffee?

We’ll be hearing from players from all across the industry, from award-winning baristas to leading influencers.

Tastings with Gruppo Cimbali
Join the espresso experts from Faema and La Cimbali by master coffee trainers from MUMAC Academy. They will be serving up mouth-watering talks and tastings on pairing coffee with chocolate – starring Gianluca Fusto, renowned maître chocolatier & pâtissier – as well as panettone and sugar-free pastry with artisanal independent pastry lab Eutopia Milano.

The Trade Day
Whilst our trade days usually fall on a Friday before the bustle of the weekend, in Milan we're seeing out the weekend in style and inviting the coffee industry to join us on Monday 02 December. As well as talks from all of the players above, there will be a panel focussing on leveraging the benefits of social media in the coffee industry, plus we'll be hearing from the Specialty Coffee Association about the new frontiers of producing countries. Dreaming of starting your own specialty coffee shop? Ditta Artigianale's Francesco Sanapo and Burak Alici, founder of QVIDTVM, will be on hand to give guidance on how to start this journey.
