One day in the life of a Milanese foodie: Specialty PaL

[LUCA] Our typical day begins with a carefully prepared specialty coffee at home before we start our day. This morning we drank Finca El Puente from Honduras, roasted by Ditta Artigianale.

Then we leave immediately for Cofficina, in Ticinese. I love this area of Milan, near the Navigli, with its alternative shops and that atmosphere: a bit bohemian which adds an extra something to our photographs.

Cofficina's clientele is a perfect mix of local and cosmopolitan. The minimal but cozy design is reminiscent of Australian and Northern European cafés. Last time we visited we sampled Burundi Butegano on the V60. The choice here is extensive: from the classic espresso to the filter and cold brew systems.

[Valentina] After a quick lunch, we suggest a mandatory stop by Cucchi, in Corso Genova, for an espresso on the fly. Cucchi is a historic pastry shop in Milan, where coffee is served accompanied by a chocolate instead of sugar that, as usual, many Italians still tend to add to their coffee.

[Valentina] The Ape? At the Bar Basso, another historic Milanese place to drink, in the Piola area. It is here that the original and famous Negroni Sbagliato has been invented: Martini Rosso, Bitter Campari and sparkling wine instead of the classic gin. An atmosphere of yesteryear with velvet armchairs and knowledgeable bartenders all prepared for the creative community of international designers who frequent there.

[Luca] After dinner, however, we often meet with friends at Notthingham Forest, which for years now has been considered as one of the "50 best bars in the world". You can rely on Dario Comini, who has been at the helm of the restaurant for almost 40 years to choose your tipple. One of my favourites is the Mondrian Martini, a Martini with absinthe, saffron and Pimm's. Whatever cocktails you choose, you won’t be disappointed as they’ve been carefully prepared, down to the very last detail.  Perfect to Instagram!
