What Does it Mean to be a Women in Coffee?

It is precisely from this question that the Milan Coffee Festival 2019 will start, hosting a panel represented by the most influential women in the Italian coffee scene.

(Copy originally written in Italian).

We are talking about women who dedicate their lives completely to coffee, three hundred and sixty degrees, ambassadors of culture and innovation. The female baristas, who with their watchful eye try to perfect themselves every day and do it through each other, through their colleague and with the client. The trainers, in charge of teaching the theoretical and practical coffee culture, who convey all the passion and love as only a woman can do, with that perfectionism and the careful eye that represents them. And the same could be said for those who communicate it on a newspaper page or on a website: they are the women of change.

But in preview some of them this question was addressed, and that's how they begin to talk about themselves highlighting different ways of thinking.

Helena Oliviero, Italian Cup Tasters Champion 2018 and independent trainer:

“The woman in coffee has always been discriminated against and continues to be and there are gender differences all over the world, not only in Italy, but it is also true that often the figure of the woman is used badly: to focus on the genre you end up making a wrong communication."

Serena Falcitano, Barista of Ditta Artigianale, Florence:

“First of all I think of all the women who work in the plantations, and then immediately afterwards I think of the woman in the specialty coffee: careful, parsimonious. The woman has that extra touch when making coffee, taking care of every little detail ... let's say she has a long eye."

Ilaria Nocentini, barista and trainer at Espresso Academy:

“I am proud to be a barista and I love my job, but it is not taken seriously as it should. Often, after my motherhood, many of my colleagues changed jobs mainly because of the precariousness of the contract. Sometimes it is difficult to reconcile the affective sphere with the working one, but I believe it is important for women to increase their self-esteem and be more ambitious. "

And they won't be the only ones to attend on stage. This and much more will be waiting for you during the "Women in Coffee Panel" to be held in the "The Lab" space of the Festival.
